I am looking to form a pool of editors and journalists with a scientific background.
The aim is to compile a roster of freelance journalists and editors who can draft, write and revise science-related documents, press releases and press information material in English.
'The documents will cover a wide range of scientific and technical subject areas relating to the core business of the European Commission's in-house science service, the Joint Research Centre, and in particular its Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (JRC-IRMM). Drafting them will require the ability to understand highly scientific and technical issues and translate them to engaging everyday language while respecting the need for precision and correctness.
It involves preparing, examining and, where necessary, reformulating a text to ensure it is fit and linguistically correct for the intended purpose.
All editors involved in the project must have the following profile: a post-secondary education (university level — equivalent to 180 ECTS credits) in any field certified by a diploma preferably in the fields of chemistry, biotechnology or physics.
Editors will have to provide evidence of their experience in drafting and editing texts in English, in which they explain scientific and technical issues to a non-scientific audience. Their working experience must be equivalent to at least 4 years' full-time work at a newspaper, publishing house, PR company, etc. Means of proof of experience in editing in English: any acceptable form of proof, such as reference letters, copies of invoices or certificates which clearly indicate the volume of work done, examples of scientific journalistic press releases and articles produced over the last 2 years. Self-declarations will not be accepted as proof.'
