The acquisition was worth more than 3,5 billion Euros (US $5 billion). The generic market in Germany is dominated by Hexal, Ratiopharm and Stada Arzneimittel.

Above all, Ratiopharm sells its drugs in more than 25 countries around the world including Canada and Russia.

Largely the company is involved in the development of medicines related to allergies, cardiovascular diseases, and intestinal conditions.

Ratiopharm presently has two independent biotechnology products in the market. One of them is the "Ratiograstim" and an epoetin that belong to one of the of the company’s greatest achievements.

There are a number of positions available for life scientists at all levels. Candidates with a degree in medicine, pharmacy, biology, or biotechnology are welcome to apply for those vacancies.

The second company is called CureVac, which is the world leader in Messenger RNA (is a molecule of RNA) technologies in the field of oncology.

It is a start up company launched by the University of Tuebingen, where the headquarter is located. So far, it has managed to obtain capital investments of around 60 millions Euros.

The company is involved in the development of tumour immune therapies by using the RNA technology intended to treat prostate cancer. Additionally, it made advances in the development of RNA produced prophylactic vaccines and adjuvants.

These technological innovations in conjunction with its completely unique cGMP-production methods gives the company the final edge to formulate and generate RNA molecules suited to a large selection of therapeutic purposes.

PhD or Postdoctoral scientists with experience in immunology and microbiology are certainly in high demand at Curevac.

Another long established national scientific institute that is specialized in biomedical research on age-related processes is the Leibniz Institute for Age Research - Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI). This research centre is located in Jena, Germany.

In general the work is concentrated on pathological processes that are responsible for human ageing. These include organs that are related to the ageing process and malignant tumours. Research topics are mostly focused on biochemistry, molecular and cell biology of animals and translational studies by using human patients.

It is an attractive place for young scientist to develop their career and to become a leader in their field. The institute offers fellowship programs to qualified candidates and the positions are usually set for 3 years. This program would normally suit postdocs with a significant publication record.

For candidates who which to obtain a PhD position in the field of biology, genetics, biophysics or any other related fields are encouraged to contact the LGSA which is a joint cooperation between the FLI and Friedrich Schiller University of Jena.
