The Laboratory of Experimental Oncology is connected to the Research division of the Oncology Institute of Southern Switzerland (IOSI), which is one of the institutes of the hospital "Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale" (EOC), Bellizona.
Clinical Research is a specific area for IOSI by which over 15% of the gross annual financial budget is expended.
The Science and research lab is located in Bellinzona, Switzerland and is perfectly established at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB).

The Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB) was launched in 2000 with the objective of developing and progressing the research of human immunology, with specific focus on the components of human self-protection.
To be the center of brilliance in immunology and obtained already several successful multilevel partnerships with top tier organizations worldwide, the IRB serves eight scientific groups and supplies an exceptional atmosphere with the advantage of access to cutting edge technologies.
The IRB offers high-level scientific research opportunities for graduate students in partnership with domestic and international Universities. One of the IRB's PhD program is supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation and organized by the Theodor Kocher Institute (University of Bern) and the Faculty of Science (University of Fribourg). The topic of the research is the immune and tumor cell migration.
IOSI includes six departments: medical- and radio oncology, nuclear medicine, haematology, palliative health care and scientific research.
It was initially launched according to the North American style of "All-encompassing Cancer Centre.
The Lab constitutes of several teams doing scientific works in areas of tumor biology, genomics, molecular oncology and experimental therapeutics. The scientific knowledge and expertise abandoned at the research lab ranges from cell and molecular biology to molecular pharmacology, genomics and bioinformatics.
It also functions to provide training for national and international scientists with cooperation of Swiss and Italian Research institutes.
Academic teaching and research opportunities are abandoned at this institute. Specifically for PhD candidates, the programs are managed in partnership with the Universities of Geneva and Lausanne, and for students in cooperation with Universities of Milan and Insubria.
In addition, the experimental lab is a major element of the medical research programs, contributing in translational research and clinical trials and delivering knowledge for the purpose of pharmacodynamics, pharmacogenomics and molecular follow-up reports.
The research is concentrated on genetics and the biology of cancer with a focus on lymphomas and epithelial cancers such as prostate, breast and ovarian cancer.
The Institute is constantly looking for exceptional driven research scientists. The opportunities are huge ranging from internships, PhD positions to medical fellowships.
