The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) was established in Beijing in 1949 shortly following the birth of the People's Republic of China. As the country's top educational institution in natural sciences and research and development center, it incorporates many academic faculties and a number of research institutions.
The CAS has achieved several world-renowned scientific triumphs such as the concept of functions of numerous intricate parameters over traditional domains, the anti-sigma minus hyperon particle and also the complete synthesis of bovine insulin.
In 2008, the revenues of CAS spin-off enterprises hit the 170 billion Yuan (26 billion US Dollar) mark. In the same year, as a result of knowledge transfers, CAS assisted regional enterprises to produce revenues in the vicinity of 96.4 billion Yuan (15 billion US Dollar).
With the aid of the talent program, it has manage to sponsor over 1400 outstanding young talents in the previous years, among those positions, 77% had a PhD and MSc degrees.
In order to entice international researchers, fellowship and cooperative programs had been set up such as the Einstein Professorship and fellowship for young international scientists.
Job Opportunities at the CAS
The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the German Max Planck Society (MPG) formed together a fellowship program for talented scientists with the Computational Biology Institute. International scientists are invited to join this collaboration in the areas such as Genomics, Epigenomics, Functional genomics, Computational biology, Biostatistics and Biomathematics.
One of the key research institute's of CAS is the Chengdu Institute of Biology (CIB) which is located in Southwest China, the capital of Sichuan province.
It is mainly involved in the study of plant breeding, genetic modifications and biotechnologies. In addition, the scientists are actively involved in the research of natural products, molecular biology, and experimental ecology.
A digitalized bio-diversity data bank was produced at CIB for plantation herbarium and herpetological gallery along with the largest range of reptiles and amphibians in the People's Republic of China.
CIB is also a supporter of the Chinese Journal of Applied and Environmental Biology, a major scientific publication in the PRC. According to the future plan of the institute it is actively looking to recruit researchers for their Ecoclogy and Microbiology departments.
About Chengdu
Chengduis famous as the town of cotton-rose hibiscus, as well as the home of the giant pandas. The world's only Panda research and breeding center is based in Chengdu.
Referred to "Silicon Valley" of China, Chengdu is among the most significant commercial centers in Western China. The city has now shift to high-tech, biotechnology, finance and, IT sectors. It was recently branded as China's fourth most liveable city.
